PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION: Effective delivery and maintenance of World Class coaching and programs at the Seattle Athletic Club Downtown. The Head Squash Professional is responsible for marketing, selling and delivering squash lessons, clinics and tournaments for the club membership.

ABOUT: Seattle Athletic Club Downtown offers 8 glass courts in a beautiful facility, 2 minutes from the famous Pike Market and the world’s first Starbucks. The club hosts a thriving community of squash players, the Seattle Squash Academy with world ranked players, the FUNcademy, and a non-profit Seattle Urban Squash Foundation for under-privileged kids. JOB DUTIES: Head Squash Professional Requirements

  • To maintain and uphold the World Class squash profile and renown at the Seattle Athletic Club.
  • A high-energy team player who can work both with beginners and world-class players.
  • Be a proactive presence throughout the squash areas. This includes but is not limited to: answering member’s questions and give your assistance when possible. Providing members with any pertinent club info. Being assertive in approaching members to assist them in their game, educate them, or correct their technique.
  • Responsible for marketing, selling, billing and delivering World Class Squash services. Included in the delivery of these services will be scheduling, designing, updating and carrying out an individualized coaching program based on a client’s abilities, needs and goals.
  • The Head Squash Professional need to be able to teach and demonstrate exemplary technique and skill to maximize the effectiveness of coaching and therefore uphold the World Class standards of instruction at Seattle Athletic Club.
  • To enthuse, encourage and retain Seattle Athletic Club members in squash by providing guidance on progression opportunities at a level appropriate to their ability
  • Manage, Administer and Develop the Seattle Squash Academy into a world class program. Including but not limited to: coaching, training, recruitment, marketing, promotion and data entry.
  • To up hold and promote coaching good practice through Seattle Athletic Clubs high standards and code of conduct
  • To innovate and adapt coaching sessions to cater for differing ranges of abilities and learning styles and train clubs to deliver these programs
  • To provide electronic monitoring, evaluation and reporting on a regular basis as required
  • To carry out duties in accordance with all Seattle Athletic Club Squash policies including, equal opportunities, child protection, and health and safety.

Administrative Duties Required

  • New member consultations- Squash staff is responsible for assisting new members through new member lessons. This may include: Orientations, evaluations or an Introduction to Squash for those who will continue training following new member appointment.
  • Responsibility for the facility – regularly cleans up the squash area and encourages others to follow suit. It is the responsibility of all Squash Professional’s to assist in maintaining a clean and uncluttered appearance at the Club. Squash Professionals are required to set the example by returning all equipment to their proper area, to assist in keeping the Squash area clean and safe, and to respond courteously and promptly with any member problem or suggestion. If equipment is in need of attention, it is the Squash Professional’s responsibility to inform the appropriate people of equipment that needs repair.
  • A Seattle Athletic Club Squash Professional is required to have and enough National and International experience so that they have the ability to attract and develop internationally ranked tournaments and exhibitions to the club.
  • Follow through – Check E-mail and voice mail and at beginning and end of each appointment. Also, follows up with developmental/potential clients as well as those members who choose not to utilize the service of the Squash Department. 24-hour response time. .
  • Update daily schedule at beginning of shift for following two weeks (regular client appointments, client development, time and client management, & breaks).
  • Keep updated list of current clients available to the General Manager.

The Organization: Located in Greenwich, Connecticut, only 45mins from New York City, the Greenwich Country Club was founded in 1892 and is recognized as one of the premier private clubs in the US. The Converse House, originally built in 1928 as a squash house, currently holds two singles courts and a hardball doubles court and was completely rebuilt in 2005. The club hosts a multitude of member and member-guest events in addition to intra Club, US Squash sanctioned Junior, and a yearly WSA singles and ISDA Pro Doubles events.

Job Summary: The Head Squash Professional will be responsible for management/leadership of the overall program including teaching lessons, clinics, pro shop management, tournaments, event direction, exhibitions, and other duties relating to the running of this highly regarded squash program.

The Head Squash Professional manages and organizes one of the leading Squash programs in Greenwich, CT. The existing program runs all year and has over 60 active juniors and 50 active adult members. The successful applicant will have to have strong administrative and interpersonal skills and must be able to communicate with players and members of all ages. The Head Professional will be responsible for increasing an already thriving squash community within the club through:

  • Running the yearly program, establishing a 12 month forward looking calendar
  • Organizing intra and inter club singles and doubles tournaments
  • Delivering expert pro teaching through private lessons and group clinics
  • Running summer camps for beginner, advanced and elite players
  • Establishing an inviting and upbeat environment to guarantee member satisfaction
  • Establishing appropriate communication with members through personal interactions, emails and newsletters

Position Overview
First State Squash seeks a dynamic full­-time Academic Director to begin the summer of 2016. The Academic Director will supervise daily tutoring sessions, develop and implement suitable enrichment material, manage classroom space and initiate and maintain professional relationships with student teachers, principals and parents. Over the course of the first year, the Academic Director will run the after­-school tutoring sessions starting with students in 5th­6th grades. As the program grows, the Academic Director will be responsible for new grade levels. As a member of the program team, the Academic Director will collaborate with other program staff to ensure a fully integrated approach to First State Squash’s academic, sport, and character development programs and will report to the Executive Director.

*When the Academic Director works a half­-day on Saturdays, he/she will only be required to work a half­-day on Fridays. Also, longer hours will be required on the weekends for matches, team trips, field trips, community service projects.

Summer Schedule
● Mon-­Fri: 9:00AM­-5:00PM

Special Weekends
● Up to 8 out­-of­-town or full weekend tournaments/trips annually
● After out-­of­-town weekends, work on Monday begins at 1:00PM
● 6 Saturdays (weekends) off each school year

Vacation
● The position includes 5 weeks of vacation annually: 1 in Dec, 1 in April and 3 in August. Some but not all national holidays are off

First State Squash
First State Squash (FSS) was founded in February 2016 in partnership with the National Urban Squash & Education Association (NUSEA). The mission of First State Squash is to provide life­-changing opportunities for children from low­-income families in Wilmington through the sport of squash, intensive educational support, mentoring, and community service activities. First State Squash’s most important measurable goals are that our students graduate from high school, go to college and graduate from college.

Based at the Wilmington Central YMCA, First State Squash will launch in the fall of 2016. Each First State Squash student will have a minimum of two weekday afternoon practices a week – with one hour of academic tutoring and one hour of squash each session – and one weekend practice. Over the course of the year, students will also be required to complete at least 15 hours of community service and participate in academic and athletic programs during the summer. Students will also be matched with adult mentors who will
serve as role models and additional sources of support.

Our progress will be metrics­-driven by standards such as attendance, grade point average or an equivalent academic gauge, and high school and college graduation rates. First State Squash will also focus on non­academic outcomes, such as building self­-esteem and a sense of community engagement among our students. We will educate our team members on the importance of being service­-oriented and help them maintain a healthy and physically fit lifestyle. In addition to academic success, the program will focus on life lessons and character­-building.

At full capacity, First State Squash will serve 100 5th ­12th graders and alumni as they navigate post-­secondary school education. First State Squash will replicate the 20 year­-old urban squash model that currently serves over 1,850 students year-­round and operates in 18 cities nationwide. 99% of students who remain in their urban squash programs through high school go on to college, including renowned schools such as Amherst, Bowdoin, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Haverford, Northwestern, Smith, Trinity and Williams.

Program Description
Seattle Urban Squash is a 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity. Its mission is to help kids from underprivileged backgrounds go to college and realize their full potential in life though squash, academic tutoring, and community service. Founded in January 2013, SUS has grown quickly into a full-fledged program with 14 students with 4 days of rigorous after school program spanning 5 schools in North Seattle and more to come in following years. The program includes an engaged board of directors and advisory board, 30+ dedicated volunteers, and a growing network of donors and supporters.

SUS is modeled on the National Urban Squash and Education Association (NUSEA) criteria. NUSEA has 20+ member programs around the country and worldwide and more on the way. It enrolls over 1,000 students and has sent graduates to over 160 different universities. SUS is close to fulfilling the NUSEA criteria and achieving full NUSEA membership will be one of the mid-term goals for its Executive Director.

SUS has a healthy and rewarding partnership with Seattle Athletic Clubs in Northgate and Seattle Downtown that provide its facility for Squash practice and Academic lessons for all SUS kids, staff and volunteers.

Responsibilities:
● Organize implementation of the program pillars, including squash recruiting and instruction (preferred), educational curriculum including homework assistance, academic enrichment and standardized test preparation, organizing community service and cultural outings.
● Manage and secure annual operating and endowment fundraising to include oversight of grant writing, annual fund, major individual and corporate gifts campaign, matching grants, and annual fundraising event(s).
● Manage Academic Director and Athletic Director; Recruit and mentor volunteers for all aspects of the organization.
● Liaison with SUS accounting firm and Manage all financial, budgetary and administrative aspects of the organization including budget creation and compliance, financial reporting to Board and requisite governmental agencies, accounting, auditing, database management
● Maintain key community partnerships with school(s), students and their families, community service sites, practice facility, volunteers.
● Represent the organization in media outreach and maintain an active website and social media presence.
● Attend and provide necessary reports to quarterly Board of Directors meetings. Engage Board members in active participation of management and decision making for the organization.
● Act as liaison to NUSEA, the National Urban Squash and Education Association (www.nationalurbansquash.org) to learn from and contribute to best practices, and promote national expansion of the urban squash program prototype.

Compensation:
SUS offers a full time competitive salary commensurate with the candidate’s skill and experience expected to be in 40-50K range. The compensation also includes an attractive bonus (up to 20% of base pay) tied to achieving fundraising self-goals for the year. It also offers 4 weeks of paid annual vacation including 1 week in December, 1 week in Spring and 2 weeks in Summer when school is not in session.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Louisville Boat Club (LBC) is a 144 year old private club and has a rich history in racquet sports. The LBC currently has two singles and one doubles court and hopes to expand in the future. Currently the LBC has 100+ members active in our squash program.

The Assistant Racquets Director & Squash Professional will guide and develop the Louisville Boat Club’s Squash Program while assisting in all facets of the Club’s racquets operations. This includes the management of Club facilities, the development and management of Club racquets programs, lessons, activities, special events, exhibitions, and tournaments. The Assistant Racquets Director will be focused on squash, should have strong squash credentials, and will be solely committed to the Louisville Boat Club.
